On September 26th, at the joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, the European Day of Languages will celebrate all throughout Europe the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of our continent. Besides being a key element in achieving greater intercultural dialogue and understanding, languages are essential to the fostering of mobility of persons and knowledge in Europe and, thus, in building European enterprises’ internationalisation and competitiveness.
On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, the LILAMA Network will be launched on September 28th in the United Kingdom at an event in which more than 70 stakeholders involved in the development of linguistic policies oriented towards the needs of the labour market (strategy developers, business support agencies and funding agencies) will discuss issues and strategies in relation to language & culture for employment.
LILAMA’s partner organisation representatives will also participate in the launch workshop as part of the LILAMA Network’s 2nd consortium meeting, to be held in Cambridge form September 28th to October 1st. During the four-day meeting, in addition to discussing project operations, partners will also visit identified relevant UK initiatives in the field of linguistic policies oriented to the labour market which will be later studied within the benchmarking process of LILAMA Best Practices study. These successful initiatives will be later included in the LILAMA Network’s online Observatory of Best Practice and in the Guide of Good Practices, to be published in 2010.
