In the framework of the 2nd Consortium Meeting of the LILAMA Network project, partners visited a series of projects and initiatives carried out in the UK region of East of England.

Divided into two different groups, LILAMA partners visited during two days 6 projects and initiatives carried out in the region of East of England in the framework of the development of linguistic policies oriented towards the needs of the labour market:

•    BioCulture: Japanese & Chinese language training for the biotech and medtech sectors.
•    Business Language Champions (BLC) Programme:  BLC aimed at creating a pipeline of young people with language skills entering the workforce.
•    BAA Stansted: Scoping activity to investigate the language and culture needs of the passenger transport sector in relation to the 2012 Olympic Games.
•    Language & Culture for Business (LCB) Programme: Long-standing  government-funded language training programme for SMEs; Dossier File available as put forward for inclusion in best practice guide.
•    Transqual: English language training programme for migrant workers, focused on both lower levels of English and English for managerial and technical roles.
•    Language and Culture for International Trade (LCIT) Project: Language training pilot project aimed at trying innovative approaches to public funding of short-term language training for SMEs.

Partners visited during two days the initiatives and had the opportunity to interview representatives and managers of the different organisations participating in the projects.

The BLC+, LCB and LCIT initiatives have been proposed by RLN-East as Good Practices to be assessed by the partnership who have first hand information for their evaluation. If successful, information on the 3 Good Practices will be shortly available at the Observatory of Best Practices.
