On May 21st and 22nd, representatives of the Université Montesquieu – Bordeaux IV (UM-BIV) attended the 4th International Conference of the Language Teachers Association of Lithuania. The theme was « Multilingualism and Creativity: theory and practice of Language Education ».
The conference aimed at gathering researchers, teachers and practitioners and having them reflect on language educational practices and network.
UMBIV, representing the LILAMA Network, delivered a talk on the Regional Languages Network (RLN) which is also a partner in LILAMA and has been selected as a best practice of language policy by members of the network. The talk, aimed at presenting the work of RLN from the perspective of Spolsky's language management theory (2009), suggested that RLN was a language management consultancy, a new category to be added in Spolsky's typology. It explained RLN's work in relation to businesses and to projects, some of which have also been selected as examples of best practices by LILAMA.
The conference also allowed participants to learn about good practices of language policing. In particular, UMBIV attended a presentation about the new Estonian language strategy (2011-2017) and is hoping to further promising contacts with an Estonian university especially aware of the benefits of multilingualism for employability.
