Within the context of the European Day of Languages 2010, Directorate
General for Education and Culture of the European Commission organises an information action "Languages for SME's".
Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education and Culture, Youth, Sport and Multilingualism, will be the guest of honour at the event. Within the context of the strategy for Europe 2020, the Commissioner will discuss the contribution languages can make for the competitiveness of our enterprises and for the employability of our workforce. Invited SME representatives, that have successfully used language strategies for their businesses, will contribute with their own testimonials.
The event will take place in the form of an inter-active panel discussion,
connected via video link to some of the European Commission's Representations in the Member States.
It will also be web streamed so that it can be followed via the Internet.
The debate will focus on the importance of language support for SME's, which is also discussed in a recently published Commission report on the "Internationalisation of SMEs".
Among the participants at the event will be government experts, representatives of professional organisations, social partners and stakeholder groups promoting multilingualism.
